Lamont Jones of Iona won the Haggerty Award on Monday, presented to the All Met Division I men’s player of the year by the Met Basketball Writers Association.
Steve Pikiell of Stony Brook was named Coach of the Year.
JaKarr Sampson of St. John’s was selected Rookie of the Year.

The All Met First and Second teams were honored Monday evening at the 80th NIT/MBWA Haggerty Awards dinner at the Westchester Marriott, Tarrytown, NY.
This is the second year in a row and sixth time overall that a player from Iona has won the Haggerty Award. Previous winners : Warren Isaac, 1965; Jeff Ruland, 1980; Gary Springer, 1981; Steve Burtt, 1984; Scott Machado, 2012.
A 6-foot senior guard from Harlem, NY, Jones led the MAAC and was third in the nation with 22.6 points per game, racking up 769 points overall. He had 116 assists, 3.0 rpg and 1.2 steals. He was No.1 nationally with 249 free throws made, and tops in the MAAC and 10th in Division I with an 88.7% free throw percentage.
Jones recorded 32 double-digit point efforts in 34 games; 23 with 20 or more points, six with 30 or more and the second 40-point achievement in his career.
Jones was the Metro Atlantic player of the year, selected to the NABC coaches District 1 First Team and named an Associated Press All America honorable mention.
Pikiell guided the Seawolves (25-8), who set a school record for victories in a season, to their second straight America East regular season title and third in the past four years. He devised a Stony Brook defense that was sixth in the nation in field goal percentage defense (37.8%) and 13th in scoring defense (57.5 ppg). Pikiell also was named Coach of the Year in 2010. The MBWA award is named for Peter A. Carlesimo, the legendary Fordham coach.
A 6-8 forward from Akron, OH, Sampson led Big East freshman in scoring (14.9 ppg) and rebounding (6.6 rpg), and was named conference Rookie of the Year.
