FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Columbia's Petrasek, NJCU's Wosu Named MBB Players of the Week

NEW YORK (Dec. 15, 2015) --- Luke Petrasek of Columbia and Chinwe Wosu of New Jersey City University have been named Men’s Division I and Divisions II-III Players of the Week, respectively, by the Met Basketball Writers Assn.

The designations, for games played Dec. 7-13, are unique in that they encompass players from 74 Met area schools across Divisions I, II and III.

A 6-10 junior forward from East Northport, NY, who also was named Ivy League player of the week, Petrasek averaged 17.5 points on 63.3% shooting, 5.5 rebounds and 2.5 blocks in a 2-0 week for Columbia (8-5).

Petrasek buried a game-winning 3-pointer with 6.4 seconds remaining in regulation to lift the Lions to a 72-71 road victory over two-time defending MAAC champion Manhattan. For the game, he netted a career-high 26 points on 11-of-16 shooting to go with four rebounds.

Three nights later in a 65-56 home victory over NJIT, Petrasek led Columbia’s best defensive effort of the season with a personal-best five blocks to go with nine points and seven rebounds.

A 6-3 senior forward from Jersey City, NJ, who also was named New Jersey Athletic Conference player of the week, Wosu averaged 25.0 points, 16.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 2.0 steals in a 2-0 week for the first place Gothic Knights (7-2).

After having not played competitive basketball for two years and without a double-double in his career, he produced a pair of double doubles --- in shooting 66.7% from the field (22-of-33) --- as NJCU whipped Ramapo 87-73 at home and toppled Kean 78-62 on the road.

In a battle for first place in the NJAC, Wosu posted career highs of 24 points on 11-of-19 shooting and 18 rebounds in the win over Ramapo. Then, at Kean, he scored 15 of his career-high 26 points in the first half, shooting 11-of-14 for the game, and pulled down 15 rebounds.

NJCU is 5-0 in NJAC play for the first time since opening the 2003-04 season with five league wins and no losses.
