DANBURY, CT – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced that Debbie Archambault has been named the recipient of the 2015 Steve Bamford Award for Distinguished Service to ECAC Basketball Officiating. Archambault will be honored at the 82nd Annual All-Met Haggerty Awards Dinner on Wednesday, April 22.
The Steve Bamford Award is presented to an ECAC basketball official, coordinator or assignor who has made significant contributions and provided outstanding service to the Conference’s officiating bureau. Bamford currently serves as the Special Assistant to President and CEO Dr. Kevin T. McGinniss and has been with the ECAC since 2000. Prior to his retirement in 2011, Bamford served the Conference in a number of administrative capacities, including two stints as Interim Commissioner (2006-2007, 2012-2013) and oversaw the ECAC Officiating Bureau. He managed a staff of 4,400 sports officials, 37 officiating coordinators and coordinated of over 46,000 annual officiating assignments during his tenure.
Archambault has been officiating collegiate basketball for the last 15 years, including ten at the Division I level. A widely respected official, Archambault has appeared in two NCAA Division III Final Fours, along with countless Division II and Division III NCAA Tournament games. In addition to the NCAA appearances, she has also spent time with 11 different conferences during her illustrious career, including officiating five Northeast-10 Conference Championship Games, six Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championships and four East Coast Conference Championships. While also working the majority of her career at the Division I level, Archambault has worked with the Ivy League, Northeast Conference (NEC) and Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC).
“Debbie has been a highly-respected basketball official throughout her career,” said Bamford. “She has shown a true passion for the field of officiating and has exhibited nothing but class and excellence as she has made her presence felt on both the national and regional levels of college basketball.”
