Hovren, Rowland Selected Women's Players of the Week
 
NEW YORK (Dec. 6, 2016) --- A pair of Madisons, Madison Hovren of Army and Madison Rowland of Queens, have been named Women’s Division I and Divisions II-III Players of the Week, respectively, by the Met Basketball Writers Assn.
 
The designations, for games played Nov. 28-Dec. 4, are unique in that they encompass players from 74 Met area schools across Divisions I, II and III.
 
Both players also were named their respective conference players of the week.
 
A 5-11 sophomore forward from Spokane, WA, who was selected Patriot League player of the week for a second consecutive week, Hovren averaged a double-double with 20.0 points and 11.5 rebounds for the Cadets (7-1) in home victories over Fairleigh Dickinson (86-58) and St. Francis Brooklyn (69-46).
 
She matched career highs of 23 points and 13 rebounds against FDU, shooting 7 of 12 from the field and 9 of 11 at the foul line. Hovren followed that with a 17-point, 10-rebound performance against St. Francis that included five steals and 7 of 7 shooting at the line.
 
A 5-10 senior guard-forward from Albany, NY, who also was named East Coast Conference player of the week, Rowland averaged 25.0 points, 15.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 4.5 steals in a pair of victories for the Knights (7-1).
 
She opened the week with 25 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and three steals in an 82-54 win over Mercy. Rowland came back with 25 points on 55.3% shooting, plus five assists, six steals and a career-best 20 rebounds in a 72-61 victory over NYIT.
 
Players receiving MBWA Women’s Division I Honorable Mention for the week: Alexis Lewis, Iona; Jade Walker, St. John’s.
 
Players receiving MBWA Women’s Divisions II-III Honorable Mention for the week: Lynda Fields, Lehman; Kaitlyn Read, NYU; Zhane Robinson, Bloomfield; Jessica Rosalbo, Concordia; Marya Trapp, Felician.
