Minato, Del Rosario Selected Women's Players of the Week
NEW YORK (Feb. 16, 2016) ---
Kelsey Minato of Army, for the second time this season, and
Amely Del Rosario of Lehman have been named Women’s Division I and Divisions II-III Players of the Week, respectively, by the Met Basketball Writers Assn.
The designations, for games played Feb. 8-14, are unique in that they encompass players from 74 Met area schools across Divisions I, II and III.
A 5-8 senior guard from Huntington Beach, CA, Minato --- who previously this season was named MBWA Player of the Week on Dec. 15 --- averaged 25.5 ppg in leading Patriot League-leading Army (21-2) to a pair of victories.
She scored 29 points on 10-of-17 shooting, including 5-of-7 from 3-point range, and became Army’s all-time leading scorer in a 78-55 road win over Colgate.
Minato then had a game-high 22 points, along with four rebounds and three assists, in an 87-51 homecourt victory over American. It was the 103rd consecutive game in double figures for Minato, who now has scored 2,358 points in her collegiate career to rank ninth on the Met area all-time women’s scoring list.
A 5-5 junior guard from the Bronx, NY, Del Rosario --- who also was named CUNY Athletic Conference player of the week --- averaged 30.3 points, 7.7 assists and 5.7 steals per game to lead the Lightning to a 3-0 week with victories over Hunter, York and CCNY. With the three wins, Lehman earned the No. 1 seed in the upcoming CUNYAC tournament.
Del Rosario set a single-game school record with 48 points in an 85-61 triumph over Hunter, adding 7 assists and 6 steals. She had 28 points plus an impressive 12 assists and five steals in beating York 95-69. And she posted 15 points with six steals and four assists in a 69-58 win over CCNY.
Del Rosario leads the CUNY conference in scoring and is No. 2 in the nation in Division III with 23.4 points per game.
