Jarosz, Read Selected for Women's Weekly Awards

NEW YORK (Feb. 2, 2016) --- Tori Jarosz of Marist, for a second time this season, and Kaitlyn Read of New York University have been named Women’s Division I and Divisions II-III Players of the Week, respectively, by the Met Basketball Writers Assn.

The designations, for games played Jan. 25-31, are unique in that they encompass players from 74 Met area schools across Divisions I, II and III.

A 6-3 senior center from Cortlandt Manor, NY, Jarosz --- who also was named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference player of the week --- produced a trio of double-doubles in leading the Red Foxes (11-11) to three conference victories. Overall she averaged 16.7 points, 15.7 rebounds and 4.7 blocks while averaging just 28 minutes per game.

She started the week by reaching the 1,000th career point plateau with 18 points --- including 8-of-9 shooting at the foul line --- along with 19 rebounds (two shy of the school record) and six blocks in a 69-46 victory over visiting St. Peter’s.

Jarosz followed with 19 points on 6-of-13 shooting from the field, along with 16 rebounds and six blocks, in a 66-37 homecourt win over Siena that helped boost Marist into first place in the MAAC. At 8:30 of the third quarter, Jarosz picked up her fifth block of the game and the 163rd of her career, breaking the all-time program record which was held by Diesa Siedel.

Jarosz played just 19 minutes in the Red Foxes third game of the week, securing her NCAA-leading 17th double-double of the season with 13 points and 12 rebounds before taking a seat to watch the finish of a 74-56 victory at Rider.

A 5-8 junior guard from University Park, TX, Read helped the seventh-ranked Violets (17-1) to a 2-0 week at home in maintaining a share of first place in the University Athletic Association. She first produced 17 points and eight rebounds as NYU edged Carnegie Mellon 75-74, then posted her sixth double-double of the season with 18 points and a game-high 10 rebounds plus six assists in an 82-70 victory over Case Western Reserve. It was a three-point play by Read early in the game that propelled NYU to a 6-0 run and a lead it never relinquished.
