The designations, for games played Feb. 15-21, are unique in that they encompass players from 74 Met area schools across Divisions I, II and III.
A 5-9 senior guard from Piscataway, NJ, Grant --- who also was named Big East Conference player of the week for the second time this season --- Grant averaged 28.0 points and 8.5 rebounds per game as St. John’s (19-8) produced a 1-1 week. The Red Storm defeated Xavier on the road 69-56, then lost at home to Butler 62-58, with Grant shooting 40% from the field and surrendering just one turnover in 76 minutes of action.
Grant, previously named MBWA Player of the Week on Jan. 12, began by tying a season-high with 29 points on 10-of-19 shooting from the floor, while adding six assists and two steals.
Two days later at Butler, Grant made 10-of-17 tries from the field, including a pair of treys, to lead the Red Storm with 27 points and 11 rebounds while registering her team-best fourth double-double of the season.
A 5-10 junior guard-forward from Albany, NY, Rowland --- who also was named East Coast Conference player of the week --- shot 52.3% from the field and averaged 27.0 points, 12.0 rebounds and 5.0 steals in leading Queens (16-8) to three victories last week.
She picked up her first of two double-doubles on the week with 23 points, 13 rebounds and four steals in a 57-49 win at Molloy. Rowland then tallied 31 points, six rebounds and five steals in just 26 minutes of action in a 79-41 homecourt win over Dowling.
