FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Delgado, Kupferberg Selected MBB Players of the Week

NEW YORK (Feb. 9, 2016) --- Angel Delgado of Seton Hall and Evan Kupferberg of NYU have been named Men’s Division I and Divisions II-III Players of the Week, respectively, by the Met Basketball Writers Assn.

The designations, for games played Feb. 1-7, are unique in that they encompass players from 74 Met area schools across Divisions I, II and III.

This was the second week in a row that a player from Seton Hall earned the MBWA designation, following Isaiah Whitehead the previous week. Meanwhile, this was the second MBWA Player of the Week award for Kupferberg this season.

A 6-9 sophomore forward from the Dominican Republic, Delgado averaged 19 points and 13 rebounds while shooting 76.2% from the field in a 2-0 week at home for the Pirates (17-6), who are 12-0 this season when he racks up a double-double.

Delgado was a scorching 8-of-9 from the floor in posting 19 points and 13 rebounds in a 79-62 victory over Marquette. After the Golden Eagles tied the score to start the second half, Delgado delivered eight of his 11 second-half points in the first 5:46 to help the Pirates build a nine-point lead.

Delgado posted another 19 points with 13 rebounds in Seton Hall’s 69-61 victory over Georgetown. He had a critical layup at 5:19 to stave off a Hoyas run, then assisted on Isaiah Whitehead’s three-pointer with 3:44 remaining to give the Pirates a five-point edge.

A 6-6 senior forward from Boca Raton, FL, Kupferberg produced a trio of double-doubles en route to three victories --- all on the road --- for the Violets (17-3) last week.

Kupferberg, who has 14 double-doubles this season, began with a game-best 24 points and a game-high tying 16 rebounds, as well as a pair of steals, as NYU defeated Stevens Tech 74-66.

Then, in a pair of close University Athletic Association contests, Kupferberg registered 13 points and 10 rebounds in a 70-67 win at Carnegie Mellon, followed by game highs of 20 points and 12 rebounds as the Violets trumped Case Western Reserve 80-79.
