FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NEW YORK (March 31, 2016) - Zak Ivkovic, the Executive Director of the CUNY Athletic Conference, will receive the Mike Cohen "Good Guy"
Award from the Met Basketball Writers Assn. on Tuesday, April 12, during the
83rd NIT/MBWA All-Met Haggerty Awards Dinner.

The Haggerty Dinner, to be held at the Westchester Marriott in Tarrytown, NY, is the longest running media-managed college basketball awards program in the United States.

373Ivkovic has been a trailblazer and innovator over the last 25 years at the City University of New York Athletic Conference (14 years as executive director), helping to turn the little conference that could into one of the brightest, most advanced Division III organizations in the country.

At CUNYAC, Ivkovic has doubled the number of conference tournaments to 24 and oversaw additions at the junior college level too, but probably his most exciting endeavor is the CUNY Goodwill Tour. Back in 2003 and 2004, he led teams of CUNY all-star basketball players to the Dominican Republic and Ecuador, respectively, for a cultural and competitive experience that will carry those student-athletes for a lifetime. More recently, the Goodwill Tour has been a group of all-stars and scholar-athletes from all sports, going to remote locations to share smiles, lend a helping hand and give another culture a little bit of "New York spirit." This April, a CUNY Goodwill Tour to Cuba will embark on what may just be the most amazing conference journey yet.

Ivkovic has served on numerous NCAA committees over the years, including the Championships Committee, and most recently was selected to serve on the ECAC Board of Directors, where he chaired the Inclusive Sports Committee. Outside of CUNY, Ivkovic has worked for NBC Sports at five Summer Olympic Games (1992-2008), earning an Emmy for his work at the 1996 Atlanta Games. He also has worked several World Basketball Championships, where he gets to show off his European flair and language skills.

He was particularly helpful to the Met Basketball Writers when the MBWA added women's awards to its annual agenda in 1996.

A four-time CUNYAC Men's Soccer All-Star and graduate of the CUNY system --- Bachelors degree from Hunter, Masters from Baruch --- Ivkovic was born in the former Yugoslavia and is of Serbian heritage. He resides in Queens, NY, with his wife, Nevena, and two-year-old son Alex.

The MBWA's "Good Guy" Award is named in memory of Mike Cohen, former head of sports information at NBC Sports and Manhattan College, and former publicity director at Yonkers Raceway. He also was a consultant to Fordham University and operated his own public relations firm prior to his untimely passing in 1988 at the age of 44. Anyone involved in college basketball in the Met area is eligible for this award; the only criteria is that they --- male or female --- be a "Good Guy."
