A 6-foot-4 sophomore guard from Brooklyn, NY, Whitehead is the 11th player from Seton Hall to win the Haggerty Award. The last Pirate to gain the nod was Andre Barrett in 2004. Whitehead is only the fifth sophomore to receive the accolade in MBWA history, preceded by three three-time winners --- Jim McMillian, Columbia, 1968-70; Chris Mullin, St. John’s, 1983-85; Charles Jenkins, Hofstra, 2009-11 --- plus Ron Artest in 1999.

Whitehead powered Seton Hall (25-9) to the program’s first Big East Tournament championship since 1993 and first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2006. In 34 games, he averaged 18.2 points, 5.1 assists, 3.6 rebounds 399and 1.4 blocks. He finished second in the Big East in scoring and assists, led all conference players in 3-pointers made per game (2.9), and finished fourth in 3-point accuracy (42.6%) and third in blocked shots.

In his sixth season at the helm, Willard --- who also was named conference co-coach of the year --- guided Seton Hall to its best Big East season in over two decades. The 22 regular season wins were the most for a Seton Hall team since the 1992-93 Pirates had 24 victories going into the postseason. Picked to finish seventh in the conference in the preseason, SHU (25-9) finished third and then went on to win the Big East tournament title at Madison Square Garden. The Pirates defense held teams under 70 points 20 times, including nine times in regular season conference play.

A 6-3 guard from Saint Hubert, Quebec, Chartouny --- who also was named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year --- started 26 games for Fordham (17-14), averaging 11.3 ppg, 5.3 rpg and 6.2 assists. He led the Atlantic 10, and was 20th in the nation, in assists per game. His 161 assists were a Fordham freshman record while his 6.2 apg led all NCAA Division I freshmen.
