Will Fonseca of the College of Staten Island, for the second consecutive season, has been named the All-Met Division III Men’s college basketball Player of the Year by the Met Basketball Writers Association.
Rich Micallef of Brooklyn was selected Coach of the Year..

The All-Met First and Second Team players and coaches will be honored April 12 at the 83rd NIT/MBWA Haggerty Awards dinner at the Westchester Marriott, Tarrytown, NY.
A 6-foot-4 senior forward from Brooklyn, NY, Fonseca --- who also was named the CUNY Athletic Conference player of the year for the second straight season --- led the Dolphins with 608 total points, 23.4 points per game (16th nationally) and 10.0 rebounds. He had 25 blocks and 65 assists, and was was second in the CUNYAC and 14th in the nation in double-doubles (15). He finished his three-season CSI career with 1,702 points, fourth all-time in program history, along with 778 career rebounds (No. 8) and 83 blocks (No. 9).
In two seasons at the helm, Micallef has compiled an overall record of 45-14 for a .719 winning percentage. In 2015-16 he led Brooklyn to a 22-7 overall record, including 11-5 in the CUNYAC regular season, and the program’s first conference championship and NCAA berth since 2009-10. The Bulldogs defeated York, Staten Island and Baruch in the CUNYAC Tournament to grab their fourth NCAA appearance in school annals. Going back to his playing days at Brooklyn, Micallef helped lead the 1984 team to the NCAA Division III Final Four, the furthest any CUNYAC team has advanced in the postseason in any sport. Micallef is Brooklyn’s No. 3 leading scorer all-time with 1,740 points.
