Zimmerman, Rowland Selected WBB Players of the Week
NEW YORK (Jan. 31, 2017) ---
Camille Zimmerman of Columbia in Division I and
Madison Rowland of Queens in Divisions II-III have been named Women’s Players of the Week, respectively, by the Met Basketball Writers Assn.
The designations, for games played Jan. 23-29, are unique in that they encompass players from 74 Met area schools across Divisions I, II and III.
The MBWA selection is the second this season for Rowland, who previously was named Met Divisions II-III Player of the Week on Dec. 6.
A 6-1 junior guard/forward from Tempe, AZ, Zimmerman --- who also was named Ivy League player of the week --- averaged 29.5 points, 13.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.5 steals in a 1-1 week for the Lions (11-6).
The highlight was a 37-point, 19-rebound performance in a 91-88 quadruple-overtime victory at Dartmouth, setting career-highs in points, rebounds and steals (4), while breaking the Columbia and Ivy League record for shot attempts in a game (37). The four overtimes were the most for any Ivy League women's team.
Next, Columbia traveled to first-place Harvard where Zimmerman scored a game-high 22 points along with eight rebounds, four assists, a block and a steal in a 70-68 road loss. After trailing by as many as 12 in the second half, Zimmerman gave Columbia the lead, 56-55, with a 3-pointer in the fourth quarter. Harvard went back on top by as many as five, but Zimmerman tied it back up at 68 with less than 30 seconds remaining.
On the season, Zimmerman ranks No. 1 in the Ivy League in points per game (21.6), total points (367), rebounds per game (10.1), total rebounds (171), field goal percentage (45.5%), total field goals made (145), double-doubles (9) and minutes per game (37.18).
A 5-10 senior guard/forward from Albany, NY, Rowland --- who was named an East Coast Conference co-player of the week --- averaged a double-double of 25 points and 11 rebounds, and became the ECC’s all-time leading scorer as the Knights (18-3) captured a pair of victories.
She opened the week with 24 points, nine rebounds and four steals in a 65-51 win over Mercy. Rowland then made history in a 66-49 triumph at UDC, scoring 26 points and becoming the ECC career scoring leader with 2,119 points. She posted her 10th double-double of the season against UDC, pulling down 13 rebounds to go with five steals and five assists.
