Cooper, Renker Top Women's Weekly Accolades

NEW YORK (Dec. 5, 2017) --- Samantha Cooper of Fairfield in Division I and Charlotte Renker of Old Westbury in Divisions II-III have been named Women’s Players of the Week by the Met Basketball Writers Assn.

The designations, for games played Nov. 27-Dec. 3, are unique in that they encompass players from 74 Met area schools across Divisions I, II and III.

A 6-3 senior forward from Sudbury, Ontario, Cooper led the Stags (3-5) by averaging 24.0 points in a pair of victories last week, shooting 48.5% from the floor (17-of-35), including 57.1% (8-of-14) from beyond the arc. She set a career high with 24 points in a 78-67 home win over UMass-Lowell, then matched that scoring total while posting a double-double with 10 rebounds on the road in a 66-58 victory at Boston College. She nailed three consecutive 3-pointers at BC to break a 50-50 tie and her 16 second-half points were instrumental in helping Fairfield overcome a 10-point deficit.

A 6-2 junior center from Mineola, NY, Renker --- who also was named the Skyline Conference player of the week --- averaged 18.7 points and had a pair of 20-rebound games in averaging 15.3 boards as the undefeated Panthers (5-0) collared three league victories last week, all on the road.

Renker recorded 18 points on 9-of-12 shooting from the floor in toppling Sarah Lawrence, followed with 22 points and 20 rebounds in beating Farmingdale State, and concluded with another double-double of 16 points and 20 rebounds in a win at St. Joseph’s of Brooklyn.
