FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Delgado, Bellamy, Morris Snare Players of the Week Awards

NEW YORK (Feb. 7, 2017) --- Angel Delgado of Seton Hall in Division I, and Damian Bellamy of Lehman and Jaylen Morris of Molloy as co-winners in Divisions II-III, have been named Men’s Players of the Week, respectively, by the Met Basketball Writers Assn.

The designations, for games played Jan. 30-Feb. 5, are unique in that they encompass players from 74 Met area schools across Divisions I, II and III.

The MBWA selection is the second this season for Delgado, who previously was named Met Division I Player of the Week on Dec. 20.

A 6-10 junior forward from the Dominican Republic, Delgado --- who is the leading Division I rebounder in the nation with a 13.1 rpg mark --- averaged 19.5 points and 15.0 rebounds in a 1-1 week on the road for the Pirates (14-8).

He helped Seton Hall capture its first Big East away game victory this season, edging Georgetown 68-66 in overtime as Delgado scored a career-high 26 points and pulled down 17 rebounds. He made a career-high 12 free throws in the game, including 8-of-10 opportunities in the second half.

Earlier in the week, Delgado notched 13 rebounds and 13 points on 12-of-28 (43%) shooting from the field in a 72-70 loss on the road to nationally ranked Xavier. The two games marked his 16th and 17th double-doubles of the season and he now has 40 for his career.

A 6-0 forward from Andrews, SC, Bellamy --- a senior playing in his first collegiate season of basketball who also was named the CUNY Athletic Conference rookie of the week --- led the Lightning (14-8) with double-doubles as he averaged 20.5 points and 16.0 rebounds in a pair of victories.

He posted 20 points and 17 rebounds, shooting 8-of-16 (50%) from the field, in a 68-54 CUNYAC win over Baruch. Bellamy followed with 21 points on 10-of-17 shooting (58.8%) along with 15 rebounds in a 93-81 non-conference triumph over Purchase.

A 6-5 senior guard from Amherst, NY, Morris --- who also was named the East Coast Conference player of the week --- averaged 29.0 points in leading the Lions (13-9) to a 2-0 record for the week.

He shattered Molloy’s single-same scoring record by posting 42 points on 18-of-24 shooting (75%) from the field in a 92-78 homecourt win over Mercy. In that game, Morris also had eight rebounds, three blocks, three steals and an assist.

That outburst followed a 77-64 away game win earlier in the week against Queens in which Morris shot 42.9% from the field in totaling 16 points.
