DANBURY, CT (April 12, 2017) --- Jon Levinson will be the recipient of the 2017 Steve Bamford Officiating Award from the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC). The award will be presented at the 84th All-Met NIT/MBWA Haggerty Awards Dinner on Wednesday, April 26, at the Westchester Marriott in Tarrytown, NY.
Levinson began his officiating career on the high school level in New Jersey after earning a degree in history from Rutgers University in 1985. He eventually became an intercollegiate women’s basketball official in 1997 working games for the ECAC, Northeast Conference (NEC), Ivy League and Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.
Levinson was named coordinator of women’s basketball officials in 2013 while quickly adding the NEC, Ivy League and most recently the Patriot League to his resume.
In 2014, Levinson took on the role of secretary-rules editor for the NCAA Women’s Basketball Rules Committee. His responsibilities include serving as the national rules interpreter, editing the rules and case books and conducting national rules clinics for officials.
Through the years, Levinson worked as a basketball official while remaining dedicated to his day jobs. For 20 years, he was the dean of students at St. Aloysius High School in Jersey City, N.J., and since 2007, he has taught social studies in an alternative program for the Bergenfield (N.J.) Public Schools.
Levinson also serves in an administrative capacity on different officiating boards. He is a member of IAABO Board 33 and the Garden State Board of Women’s Basketball Officials.
