Hovren, Hunter Score Women's Weekly Awards
NEW YORK (Dec. 11, 2018) ---
Madison Hovren of Army in Division I and, for the second week in a row,
Lauren Hunter of U.S. Merchant Marine in Divisions II-III have been named Women’s Players of the Week by the Met Basketball Writers Assn.
The designations, for games played Dec. 3-9, are unique in that they encompass players from 73 Met area schools across Divisions I, II and III.
A 5-11 senior forward from Spokane, WA, Hovren --- who also was named Patriot League player of the week --- finished with a pair of double-doubles last week, averaging 31.0 points and 18.0 rebounds, when the Black Knights (4-5) defeated Fairleigh Dickinson 62-40 at home and Wagner 61-46 on the road.
She recorded 30 points against FDU, canning 12-of-17 shots from the floor, and then registered a season-high 32 points against Wagner, hitting 10-of-17 from the field and 11-of-15 at the free throw line.. Hovren also tied a career high with 22 rebounds against Fairleigh Dickinson and then notched 14 rebounds against the Seahawks
A 5-11 freshman forward from Tinley Park, IL, Hunter --- who also was named Skyline Conference rookie of the week --- extended her season-opening streak of double-doubles to six games as she helped lead the unbeaten Mariners (6-0) to a pair of league victories. She averaged 23.0 points and 12.0 rebounds while shooting 63.0% (17-of-27) from the floor in a 56-41 victory at Farmingdale State and in a 57-41 win at home over Mount St. Vincent.
Hunter scored a game-high 22 points on 8-of-12 shooting, along with 10 rebounds, at Farmingdale, then posted 24 points and 14 rebounds against Mount St. Vincent.
