Cavanaugh, Schetter Pick Up First Weekly Awards of Season
 
NEW YORK (Dec. 10, 2019) --- Bre Cavanaugh of Fordham in Division I and Lauren Schetter of Pace in Divisions II-III have been named Women’s Players of the Week by the Met Basketball Writers Assn.
 
The designations, for games played Dec. 2-8, are unique in that they encompass players from 71 Met area schools across Divisions I, II and III.

For Pace, the Setters scored a double-double for the week with Peyton Wejnert also being selected the MBWA Men’s Player of the Week.
 
A 5-9 junior guard from Allamuchy, NJ, Cavanaugh --- who also was named the Atlantic 10 co-player of the week --- averaged 22.0 points, 11.0 rebounds and 2.5 steals in helping the Rams (5-5) register a pair of victories last week. She put in 39 minutes per game in notching a pair of double-doubles, her second and third such feat in the past four contests.
 
In a 51-45 Battle of the Bronx road win over Manhattan, Cavanaugh had 21 points and a career-high 12 rebounds. She posted 23 points, 10 rebounds and three steals in a 67-54 homecourt triumph over Georgetown.
 
A 5-9 junior forward from Beacon, NY, Schetter --- who also was named the Northeast-10 Conference player of the week --- averaged 24.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists as the visiting Setters (8-1) defeated Saint Rose 78-73 and beat Bridgeport 74-51.
 
Schetter poured in a career-high 28 points at Saint Rose, then scored 21 points with a career-best five steals in the victory at Bridgeport.
 
Players receiving MBWA Women’s Division I Honorable Mention for the week: Milena Bajic, NJIT; Nevena Dimitrijevic, St. Francis Brooklyn; Desiree Elmore, Seton Hall; Arella Guirantes, Rutgers; Stella Johnson, Rider; Lindsey Scamman, Army West Point.
 
Players receiving MBWA Women’s Divisions II-III Honorable Mention for the week: Jess Camarda, Adelphi; Sarah Coutu, Manhattanville; Janean Cuffee, NYU; Victoria Jacobs, Centenary; Annie Keenan, Mount Saint Mary; Christina Kiser, Bard; Payce Lange, Kean; Yuval Nitzan, Yeshiva; Davida Warren, Old Westbury.
