St. John's Alexander Named Met MBB Player of the Week
NEW YORK (Jan. 26, 2021) ---
Posh Alexander of St. John's has been named Men’s Player of the Week by the Met Basketball Writers Assn.
The designation, for games played Jan. 18-24, is unique in that it encompass players from 72 Met area schools across Divisions I, II and III. This season, however, many schools are not playing basketball or have delayed seasonal starts due to the coronavirus situation, and for this week nominations were only received from Division I programs.
The selection for player of the week was extremely competitive and close.
A 6-0 freshman guard from Brooklyn, NY, Alexander averaged 19.0 points --- shooting 45.5% from 3-point range and 53.8% overall from the floor --- in helping the Red Storm (9-7) last week achieve a 74-70 victory at UConn and a 96-78 triumph at home over Utah Valley.
In a banner all-around game at UConn on Monday, Alexander scored 18 points, including three 3-pointers, while dishing out six assists and snaring three steals. He closed the week on Saturday at home against Utah Valley with his first career 20-point effort to go with three steals and a pair of assists.
Alexander has dished out a team-leading 71 assists this season to go with 10.5 points per game and 46.7% accuracy from the field.
