NEW YORK (Dec. 19, 2023) --- Kaitlyn Chen of Princeton University has been named Division I Women’s Player of the Week by the Met Basketball Writers Association. 
 
The designation, for games played Dec. 11-17, is unique in that it encompasses players from 21 Met area Division I schools.
 
A 5-9 senior guard from San Marino, CA, Chen --- who also was named the Ivy League player of the week --- averaged 25.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists in helping the Tigers (8-3) edge Villanova 61-58 on the road last Monday and topple Rutgers 66-55 at home on Wednesday. For the week, she was a perfect 10-of-10 at the free throw line.
 
Chen erupted for a career-high 31 points as Princeton overcame a five-point deficit with seven minutes left in the game at Villanova. As the Tigers mounted the comeback, Chen canned five consecutive points in the waning minutes.
 
She posted 19 points on 7-of-13 shooting from the floor and 5-of-5 accuracy at the free throw line, to go with five assists, in the intrastate win over Rutgers.

The MBWA Players of the Week program will take a two-week holiday break and resume with games played Jan. 1-7. Nominations will have a deadline of 1 pm on Jan. 8 with winners announced on Jan. 9.
