Spencer Freedman of New York University has been named Divisions II/III Men’s Player of the Week by the Met Basketball Writers Association.
The designation, for games played Jan. 22-28, is unique in that it encompasses players from 48 Met area schools across Divisions II and III.
This was the second consecutive MBWA accolade for Freedman, having been previously named co-Player of the Week on Jan. 23.
A 6-0 graduate guard from Pacific Palisades, CA, Freedman --- who also was named University Athletic Association athlete of the week --- produced a pair of double-doubles in averaging 21.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, 8.5 assists and 1.5 steals in a 2-0 homecourt stretch for the then nationally No. 13-ranked Violets (15-3).
NYU, which is in first place in the UAA with a 5-2 record, defeated Rochester 80-73 on Friday and followed by beating No. 20-ranked Emory 86-77 on Sunday.
Against Rochester, Freedman registered game-highs of 23 points, seven assists and a career-high 11 rebounds while also adding a steal.
On Sunday, he produced 20 points, five rebounds, 10 assists and two steals.
