Luis Flores of Manhattan earned his second straight Lt. Frank J. Haggerty Award in 2004 for the best men's Division I college basketball player in the metropolitan area, albeit in a tie with another senior guard, Andre Barrett of Seton Hall, as the 71st annual NIT/MBWA awards dinner was held at the Meadowlands in East Rutherford, NJ.

A scoring phenom at New York's Norman Thomas High School, Luis Flores transferred to Manhattan from Rutgers after his freshman season.

Flores was fifth in the country in scoring as a senior, averaging 24.0 points as Manhattan went 25-6 and he shared the Haggerty Award with Andre Barrett of Seton Hall. A two-time MAAC player of the year, Flores finished as Manhattan's all-time leading scorer with 2,046 points. Including 39 points in 14 games at Rutgers, totaled 2,085 for his collegiate career. 722

Besides the MAAC Player of the Year, he was named First Team All-MAAC, MAAC Tournament MVP, NABC District 2 First Team, Associated Press Honorable Mention All-American, and the USBWA District 2 Player of the Year. Flores became the first player to receive consecutive Haggerty Awards since Malik Sealy of St. John's won the award in 1991 and 1992. He is inducted into the Manhattan College Hall of Fame and the MAAC Honor Roll for his career achievements.

Flores, a Washington Heights legend, was drafted in the second round of the NBA draft by the Houston Rockets. He was traded to the Dallas Mavericks and also played for the Golden State Warriors before embarking on a long, notable career in Europe and Israel. He was the leading scorer in the Israeli League in 2009 and also made multiple international appearances for his native Dominican Republic National team.
