Carrington, Harris Snare Men's Weekly Accolades

NEW YORK (Feb. 21, 2017) --- Khadeen Carrington of Seton Hall in Division I and Jalen Harris of NJCU in Divisions II-III have been named Men’s Players of the Week, respectively, by the Met Basketball Writers Assn.

The designations, for games played Feb. 13-19, are unique in that they encompass players from 74 Met area schools across Divisions I, II and III.

A 6-4 junior guard from Brooklyn, NY, Carrington --- who also was named the Big East Conference player of the week --- Carrington averaged 31.5 points, 4.5 assists and 2.5 steals in a 1-1 homecourt week for the Pirates (16-10). He shot 17-of-31 (54.8%) from the field, including 6-of-13 (46.4%) from 3-point range, and hit 23-of-28 (82.1%) free throws.

Carrington scored a career- and Big East season-high 41 points, including 10 points in the final 41 seconds of the game, as Seton Hall toppled then No. 20 Creighton 87-81. He had a critical steal at midcourt with 18.6 seconds to go in the game, catching the Bluejays asleep as they were trying to roll the ball up to save time. He dove to the floor to get the loose ball and then dunked it on the fast break to put the Pirates up six with 15 seconds remaining.

The 41 points are tied for the most ever by a Seton Hall Pirate in a Big East game and tied for eighth all-time in program history.

Carrington next scored 22 points on 7-of-16 shooting in a 92-70 loss to No. 2 ranked Villanova. The two games were the 10th and 11th 20-point efforts for him this season, and he is averaging a team-best 17.8 ppg.

A 6-2 senior guard from Brandywine, MD, Harris --- who also was named New Jersey Athletic Conference player of the week --- averaged 23.5 points, 3.0 assists and 2.5 rebounds as the Gothic Knights defeated Stockton 73-63 in their final regular season home game followed by a 97-87 win at home over Stockton again in the quarterfinal round of the NJAC playoffs. For the week, he shot 58.3% (14-of-24) from the field and 88.2% (15-of-17) at the free throw line.

Harris scored in double figures for the 47th and 48th time in 54 career games as a Gothic Knight. He has 122 career 3-pointers and 935 points. He surpassed 1,000 collegiate points last week now has 1,039 total points: 935 at NJCU, 42 in 11 games at Albright (2014-15) and 62 in 23 games at Nyack (2013-14).

In the first triumph over Stockton, he scored a career-high 31 points, helping NJCU erase a 12-point deficit late in the first half with a 17-3 outburst. He followed with 16 points on 5-of-11 shooting, along with three assists, in the NJAC quarterfinal victory.
