Davis, Robinson Snare WBB Players of the Week Honors
NEW YORK (Jan. 23, 2018) ---
G’mrice Davis of Fordham in Division I and
Zhane Robinson of Bloomfield in Divisions II-III have been named Women’s Players of the Week by the Met Basketball Writers Assn.
The designations, for games played Jan. 15-21, are unique in that they encompass players from 74 Met area schools across Divisions I, II and III.
The selection was the second this season for Davis, who previously was honored on Jan. 9, and the third week in a row that a player from Fordham has been named MBWA player of the week.
A 6-2 senior forward from Philadelphia, PA, Davis averaged 18.0 points and 11.0 rebounds, and extended her double-double streak to nine games, in a 1-1 week for the Rams (15-5).
She registered 16 points, 12 rebounds and three steals in a 63-62 home loss to Dayton, then followed with 20 points on 8-of-15 shooting and 10 rebounds in a 43-38 victory at Richmond.
A 5-10 senior forward from Newark, NJ, Robinson --- who also was named Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference player of the week --- averaged a double-double with 25.0 points and 11.5 rebounds in a 2-0 CACC week at home for the Bears (8-9). She shot 50.0% from the field (16-of-32) and 94.4% (17-of-18) at the free throw line.
Robinson first notched 20 points, eight rebounds and two steals in a 77-56 win over Post. She next erupted for 30 points on 10-of-18 shooting, along with 15 rebounds, in an 85-74 triumph over Chestnut Hill.
