Cooper, Drogsler Claim Weekly WBB Honors

NEW YORK (Feb. 13, 2018) --- Samantha Cooper of Fairfield in Division I and Kristen Drogsler of Caldwell in Divisions II-III have been named Women’s Players of the Week by the Met Basketball Writers Assn.
 
The designations, for games played Feb. 5-11, are unique in that they encompass players from 74 Met area schools across Divisions I, II and III.

A 6-3 senior forward from Sudbury, Ontario, Cooper --- who also was named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference player of the week --- averaged 24 points and recorded a pair of double-doubles in a 1-1 week on the road for the Stags (10-14).
 
She poured in a career-high 29 points and posted 12 rebounds in a 78-68 victory at Iona, then registered 19 points and a conference-leading 12th double-double of the season with 10 rebounds in a 55-54 loss at Manhattan. With her totals Cooper moved into fifth place on the all-time Fairfield rebounding list.
 
A 5-10 senior guard from Middle Village, NY, Drogsler --- who also was named Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference player of the week --- averaged 27 points, 2.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 3.5 steals in a 2-0 week for the Cougars (20-4). She shot 58.1% (18-of-31) from the field, including 47.1% (8-of-17) from downtown, in leading Caldwell to a 70-44 homecourt romp past Dominican and an 80-68 triumph on the road over Chestnut Hill.
 
Drogsler tallied 22 points, three rebounds and five steals against Dominican, then netted a season-high 32 points along with two rebounds, four assists and two steals in the win over Chestnut Hill.
 
Players receiving MBWA Women’s Division I Honorable Mention for the week: Kayla Grimme, Manhattan; Madison Hovren, Army West Point; Shania Johnson, Stony Brook; Candice Leatherwood, Sacred Heart; Maya Singleton, St. John’s; Camille Zimmerman, Columbia.
