Pemberton, Anyia Earn Met Men's Players of the Week

NEW YORK (Jan. 22, 2019) --- Eli Pemberton of Hofstra in Division I and Enike Anyia of Sarah Lawrence for the second time this season in Divisions II-III have been named Men’s Players of the Week by the Met Basketball Writers Assn.

The MBWA designations, for games played Jan. 14-20, are unique in that they encompass players from 73 Met area schools across Divisions I, II and III.

Pemberton’s selection represents the second consecutive week a Pride player has been chosen for the MBWA honor and the third such designation this season for Hofstra following two-time seasonal honoree Justin Wright-Foreman last week.

A 6-5 junior guard from Middletown, CT, Pemberton --- who also was named the Colonial Athletic Association player of the week --- averaged 25.0 points and 5.5 rebounds to lead Hofstra (17-3) to a pair of conference victories, extending the team’s winning streak to 14 games. He shot 59% (17-of-29) from the field and 46% (5-of-11) from 3-point range as the Pride defeated UNC Wilmington 87-72 and Charleston 86-72 to remain unbeaten (7-0) atop the CAA.

Pemberton posted a game-high 24 points and added six rebounds last Thursday in the win over UNCW, then followed with 26 points, five rebounds and three assists in the victory over defending CAA champion Charleston.

A 6-5 sophomore forward from Los Angeles, CA, Anyia --- who also was named the Skyline Conference player of the week and previously was selected by the MBWA on Jan. 8 --- averaged 25.5 points and 7.5 rebounds as the Gryphons (11-7) reached a program record for victories in a season by defeating Mount Saint Vincent 72-65 on the road and Purchase 79-77 at home. Anyia in the two games shot 59.3% (16-of-27) from the floor and 81.8% from the free throw line (18-of-22).

He notched his eighth double-double of the season by scoring a game-high 24 points to go with 11 rebounds and four assists in the win over Mount Saint Vincent, then posted a game-high 27 points along with four rebounds in the win over Purchase.
