Yeshiva's Turell Repeats as Men's Divs. II-III Player of the Week
NEW YORK (Dec. 14, 2021) ---
Ryan Turell of Yeshiva has been named Divisions II/III Men’s Players of the Week by the Met Basketball Writers Association for the second consecutive week.
The designation, for games played Dec. 6-12, is unique in that it encompasses players from 48 Met area schools across Divisions II and III.
A 6-7 senior guard from Los Angeles, Turell --- who was named Skyline Conference player of the week for the fourth time this season --- averaged 32.7 points and 6.7 rebounds in leading the unbeaten and D3hoops.com’s nationally ranked No. 1 Maccabees (13-0) to three victories that extended their undefeated streak to 49 consecutive games. That winning streak is the second-longest in Division III history, exceeded only by the 60 straight victories posted by SUNY Potsdam in 1985-87.
Turell, who is third in the nation in Division III scoring (28.9 ppg), produced a game-high 35 points along with nine rebounds and four forced steals as YU thrashed Brooklyn 94-48 on the road.
Next he led all scorers again, this time with 25 points, as Yeshiva secured an 86-76 homecourt win over Washington of Maryland.
In the final game of the week, a 104-59 trouncing of Medgar Evers, Turell led the way with 38 points on 14-of-21 shooting from the floor --- including 6-of-10 marksmanship from 3-point range --- along with six rebounds, two blocked shots and a pair of assists.
