NEW YORK (March 21, 2024) ---  Stephen "Steve" Dombroski, Senior Associate Athletics Director for External Relations at St. John's University, will be honored with the Mike Cohen "Good Guy" Award from the Met Basketball Writers Association. The presentation will be made at the 91st MBWA All-Met Haggerty Awards dinner scheduled Thursday, April 18, at the Sleepy Hollow Hotel & Conference Center in Tarrytown, NY.

The Haggerty dinner is the longest running, media-managed college basketball awards program in the United States.

Dombroski, who joined the Red Storm in October 2014 as Associate Athletics Director for Communications, oversees media relations and publicity for SJU’s 17 varsity athletic teams while serving as the primary contact for men’s basketball. He also is sport administrator for the men’s basketball program and manages the athletics department’s advertising, branding, creative services, marketing, multimedia and the St. John’s University Television Network (SJU-TV).

Dombroski serves as lead contact for Red Storm athletic partners, such as Fox Sports, Learfield, Madison Square Garden and Nike. He represents St. John’s on the Big East Conference marketing council. Under his guidance, SJU has executed numerous strategic initiatives enhancing the areas of social and digital expansion. During his tenure, the university has been honored multiple times in the areas of fan experience, season ticket campaigns, revenue generating ideas and content, and online marketing.

Prior to his hiring at St. John’s, Dombroski worked in college athletic communications at Seton Hall, Manhattan, Siena and Wagner. He also has worked for Madison Square Garden and the New Jersey Pride Professional Lacrosse team.

A native of Latham, NY, Dombroski earned his Bachelor’s degree at Siena, where he played lacrosse, and his Master’s degree at Wagner. He and his wife, Kara, have two sons and a daughter, and reside in New Rochelle, NY.

The MBWA’s “Good Guy” Award is named in memory of Mike Cohen, former head of sports information at NBC Sports and Manhattan College, and former publicity director at Yonkers Raceway. Cohen also was a consultant to Fordham University and operated his own public relations firm prior to his untimely passing in 1988 at the age of 44. Anyone involved in college basketball is eligible for this award; the only criteria is that they --- male or female --- be a “Good Guy.”
