The All-Met Third Team: Xavier Allen, St. Joseph’s-LI; Zay Freeney and Michael Savarino, New York University; Tommy Lotito, Manhattanville; Jake Murphy, Maritime; Corey Powell, Farmingdale State
Being named All-Met is unique in that there are 36 colleges and universities and more than 500 players under the MBWA Division III men’s umbrella.
The 2023-24 All-Met teams will be honored at the 91st MBWA Haggerty Awards dinner on Thursday, April 18, at the Sleepy Hollow Hotel & Conference Center in Tarrytown, NY. The Haggerty dinner is the longest running, media-managed college basketball awards program in the United States.
A 6-6 senior guard-forward from Mount Sinai, NY, Hurowitz --- who also was named the Skyline Conference player of the year and was selected to the NABC All-America First Team --- led the Rams (27-3) in scoring (19.1 ppg) and rebounding (8.6 rpg) while shooting 49.0% from the floor, including 41.4% from beyond the arc. An All-Met Second Team pick in 2023, he posted top conference rankings this season in 3-point percentage (first), scoring (third), rebounding (third) and field goal percentage (fifth).
Hurowitz was a key cog in the Rams annexing the Skyline Tournament title (21.0 ppg, 10.0 rpg in the event) and then advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. He closed his career with 1,298 points, a 13.7 ppg average across 95 games, and with 644 rebounds, a 6.8 rpg mark.
Hurowitz represents the fourth time a player from Farmingdale State has been named the MBWA All-Met Division III men’s Player of the Year, following co-winner Damien Santana (2009) and two-time winner A.J. Matthews (2012-13).

In his 11th season at Farmingdale State, Twomey --- who also was named both the Skyline and ECAC coach of the year --- guided the Rams (27-3 overall) to a 15-1 regular season conference record, first place in the circuit’s Black Division, the first back-to-back conference crowns in program history and the fourth league title in the past seven seasons. FSC won each of its three Skyline Tournament games by 15+ points, defeating Gold Division champ Yeshiva in the conference final.
Farmingdale State advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the fourth time in eight appearances and for the first time since 2012. The Rams beat Stevens in the opening round before falling to homestanding Hampden-Sydney.
This year’s 27 victories tied for the most in a Rams single season with the 2008-09 squad that advanced to the NCAA national quarterfinals.
Prior to joining Farmingdale State for the 2013-14 season, Twomey coached at Centenary and at Stevens. His career won-loss record with the Rams now stands at 179-95 (.653 pct). A graduate of Mount Saint Mary College in 2004 with a degree in Business Administration, he was a standout player for the Knights, including being named the Skyline player of the year in 2004.
