NEW YORK (Jan. 9, 2026) – The Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association is pleased to welcome Chad Duke as a Media Relations Intern for the Spring 2026 semester.

“The MBWA Executive Committee is excited to add Chad to our team for the Spring 2026 semester," said Gregg Cohen, MBWA Vice President for Communications. "We sought to find a student who will bring a new perspective to the staff and Chad has the energy, the mindset and the youthful enthusiasm that we are seeking from this position. Chad will immediately assist the organization with its website (www.metbasketballwriters.org), social media efforts and lead a new project with our archives and history.”

The MBWA Communications team was elated at the number of quality resumes and applications for the 2026 internship. Last year, the MBWA retained Luca Mesiti, a student at Sarah Lawrence College, who has since been promoted to Digital Media Coordinator by the organization for 2025-26.

“Due to our success last year with Luca as our intern, we had several worthy candidates apply this year,” added Cohen. “Our communications team felt we could have picked any of our interviewees. Chad was the most introspective and inquisitive of the group, and that really made the difference in our decision.”

Duke is in his senior year at SUNY Purchase after a very successful college basketball career. He first played at Monroe College in the Bronx for two seasons, earning his Associate’s degree in Business Administration, before heading to Purchase. For the Panthers, the 6-2 guard averaged 10.0 points and 2.5 rebounds a game last season. Academically, he will earn a Bachelor’s degree in Economics in May.

“Thank you to Ms. Siti at Purchase for the recommendation, and to Gregg Cohen and John Tagliaferri from the MBWA as well. I am truly appreciative of this tremendous opportunity from the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association,” said Duke. “My goal is to see the other sides of athletics beyond just playing, using my talents to share stories that highlight dedication and discipline while developing strong work habits and professional skills that will help me succeed beyond sports.”

A Brooklyn native, Duke interned last semester in the Purchase Sports Information office, following a successful Project Management internship at DBI Projects, a real estate advisory and capital project management firm. He has also worked with youth programs at the Bedford Stuyvesant YMCA and the Boys and Girls Club of Metro Queens.
