NEW YORK (Jan. 8, 2026) – The Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association is pleased to announce the promotion of Luca Mesiti to Digital Media Coordinator for the 2025-26 season. In 2025, Mesiti served as the first ever MBWA Media Relations Intern.
Mesiti, a former student-athlete on the Sarah Lawrence College men’s basketball team, is serving as the team manager for the Gryphons for the 2025-26 academic year. He just finished his first semester interning at the world-renowned SLAM Magazine on their production team. At SLAM, he captures and edits social content, including magazine cover shoots and brand partnership videos with clients such as Nike, Celsius, Chime and VKTRY. He also produces live photo coverage at NBA and NCAA games.
For the MBWA, Mesiti will continue to be the primary designer of all graphics and videos in 2025-26; this includes all website graphics and anything posted to the organization’s social media sites. Additionally, Mesiti will broaden his own venture, started last year with the MBWA Plays of the Week --- where he picks the best plays from among the 70 member schools every Monday, puts them out for a vote and announces the winner on Wednesdays. He will generate original and unique content for the 93rd annual MBWA Haggerty Awards Dinner in April, including live updates on social media during the event.
“The MBWA is thrilled to be able to promote Luca to a permanent position for 2025-26," said Gregg Cohen, MBWA Vice President for Communications. "Last year, Luca immediately led our social media efforts and enhanced our visual identity with his Plays of the Week. The Plays of the Week are really gaining traction this year, and it was all his idea. He’s a brilliant young mind and it’s creativity like this that will move us forward as an organization.”
“I am so appreciative of this outstanding opportunity to continue to collaborate with the Met Basketball Writers Association,” said Mesiti. “I learned so much last season as an intern and I am excited to keep growing as an artist and creator with this organization. The leadership of the MBWA has been extremely supportive of me as a student and as a creator, and I am beyond excited to see where we can take these efforts in the future.”
Mesiti is currently in his junior year at Sarah Lawrence, pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts with concentrations in digital media. He has Australian/Italian heritage, was raised in Australia and moved to IMG Academy in Florida to attend his senior year of high school.
