Columbia's Hsu Clinches Met Women's Div. I Player of the Week Honors

NEW YORK (Dec. 13, 2022) --- Abbey Hsu of Columbia has been named the Division I Women’s Player of the Week by the Met Basketball Writers Association.
 
The designation, for games played Dec. 5-11, is unique in that it encompasses players from 21 Met area schools across Division I.

A 5-11 junior guard from Parkland, FL, Hsu --- who also was named the Ivy League player of the week --- led the Lions (9-2) to a pair of road victories in defeating Stony Brook 84-68 on Wednesday and reigning Atlantic 10 champion Massachusetts 83-74 on Saturday. She averaged 23.5 points on 51.6% shooting (16-of-31) from the floor, including 55.6% (10-of-18) from beyond the 3-point arc, along with 6.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.0 steals.
 
Hsu opened her week in the victory at Stony Brook with 13 points, six rebounds, a block and two steals.
 
She then exploded for 34 points at UMass, nailing 12-of-18 shots from the field, including 9-of-11 from 3-point range. Her nine 3-pointers were a program record, tied for the most treys in a game by anyone in the NCAA this season and represented the second-most in a single game in Ivy League history.
 
Through Columbia’s 11 games so far, Hsu leads the NCAA with 39 made 3-pointers, along with topping the Ivy League and ranking No. 30 in the NCAA in 3-point shooting percentage (48.1%). Additionally, she is the league leader in scoring average (18.3 ppg), total points (201) and made field goals (70), helping the Lions to a program-best NET ranking of No. 27.
