Lauren Park-Lane of Seton Hall has been named Division I Women’s Player of the Week by the Met Basketball Writers Association.
The designation, for games played Nov. 28-Dec. 4, is unique in that it encompasses players from 21 Met area schools across Division I.
A 5-3 graduate guard from Wilmington, DE, Park-Lane --- who also was named the Big East Conference player of the week --- averaged a team-leading 27.5 points and 6.5 assists in a 2-0 week for the Pirates (6-3). Notching its third and fourth consecutive victories, SHU first defeated Xavier 74-55 on Dec. 2 in Cincinnati and then came home to South Orange, NJ, to upend then No. 24-ranked Marquette 82-78 on Dec. 4.
On Friday against Xavier, Park-Lane had a game-high 24 points to go with six assists and three rebounds. Against Marquette on Sunday, she erupted for game-highs of 31 points and seven assists.
The weekly award was the fourth of her career for Park-Lane, who was similarly honored twice last season and once in 2020-21, and who was selected as the MBWA Division I women’s Player of the Year for 2021-22.
