St. John's Dwyer Earns Opening Women's Div. I Player of the Week Nod

NEW YORK (Dec. 10, 2024) --- Lashae Dwyer of St. John's University has been named Division I Women’s Player of the Week by the Met Basketball Writers Association.

The designation, for games played Dec. 2-8, is unique in that it encompasses players from 21 Met area Division I schools.

A 5-6 senior guard from Toronto, Ontario, Dwyer averaged 19.5 points, 5.5 steals and 4.5 rebounds per game as the Red Storm (8-1) registered two non-conference victories last week, toppling Penn State 72-67 on the road Monday and then defeating Wake Forest 63-45 at home on Sunday.

Dwyer became one of four players in NCAA Division I this season to record at least 25 points and seven steals in a single-game. Her 25 points at Penn State marked a career-best.

She followed up with 14 points and four steals against visiting Wake Forest.

Players receiving MBWA Division I Honorable Mention for the week: Tenesia Brown, FDU; LaNae’ Corbett, Hofstra; Ny’Ceara Pryor, Sacred Heart; Nikola Zdenkova, Saint Peter’s.
