NEW YORK (Jan. 20, 2026) ---
Savannah Catalon of Seton Hall University has been named Division I Women’s Player of the Week by the Met Basketball Writers Association.
The designation, for games played Jan. 12-18, is unique in that it encompasses players from 21 Met area schools in Division I.
This is Catalon's first career MBWA weekly honor.
A 5-8 junior guard from Mansfield, TX, Catalon averaged 18.0 points and nailed a perfect 20-of-20 shots at the free throw line in helping the Pirates (13-5, 7-2) collar a pair of Big East victories last week, defeating Marquette 64-61 at home on Wednesday and beating DePaul 86-77 on the road Saturday.
Catalon started the week by registering 12 points, three rebounds, two steals and 10-of-10 accuracy at the free throw line against Marquette, while drawing 10 fouls.
On the road Saturday, she produced a team-high 24 points, with 4-of-9 shooting from 3-point range, and again canned 10-of-10 free throws.
Catalon is eighth in the Big East in scoring with 14.0 points per game and second in the conference in free throw percentage (88.0%, No. 28 in the nation), having missed just five foul shots (78-of-83) all season.
