NEW YORK (Jan. 27, 2026) ---
Darren Rubin of New York University has been named Divs. II/III Men’s Player of the Week by the Met Basketball Writers Association.
The designation, for games played Jan. 19-25, is unique in that it encompasses players from 49 Met area schools across Divisions II and III.
This is Rubin's first career MBWA Player of the Week award
A 6-2 graduate guard from Dayton, OH, Rubin --- who also was selected the University Athletic Association player of the week --- averaged 22.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 6.0 assists and a steal as the Violets (12-4, 3-2) captured a pair of road victories against ranked opponents last weekend.
NYU edged Washington University in St. Louis 77-76 last Friday, then defeated host Chicago 89-68 on Sunday.
Against No. 18-ranked WashU, Rubin recorded a career-high 28 points, six assists, four rebounds and two steals, plus he nailed an electrifying, buzzer-beating 3-point shot to provide NYU with the victory.
In toppling No. 2-ranked Chicago, Rubin totaled 17 points, four rebounds and a game-high six assists.
Over the two games, he shot 46.8% (15-of-32) from the field, 55.5% (5-of-9) from 3-point range and 90.9% (10-of-11) from the foul line.
