NEW YORK (Feb. 10, 2026) ---
Zuby Ejiofor of St. John's University has been named Division I Men’s Player of the Week by the Met Basketball Writers Association.
The designation, for games played Feb. 2-8, is unique in that it encompasses players from 21 Met area schools in Division I.
This marks the first career MBWA Player of the Week award for the 2024-25 All-Met First Teamer.
A 6-9 senior forward from Garland, TX, Ejiofor --- who was named to the Big East Conference weekly Honor Roll --- averaged team-highs of 18.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 2.0 blocks in a pair of wins by the No. 17-ranked Red Storm (19-5, 12-1), at home in the Garden over No. 3 Connecticut (81-72) and on the road at DePaul (68-56) last week.
Ejiofor shot 54.2% (11-of-21) from the field as St. John’s annexed its eighth and ninth wins in a row last week and now, with Monday’s 87-82 overtime victory over Xavier at Madison Square Garden, has extended that streak to 10 straight, second-longest in program history.
Ejiofor began last week with 16 points, nine rebounds and four assists at DePaul. Ejiofor’s 3-pointer at 15:17 in the first half sent him over 1,000 career points at St. John’s.
Then on Friday Night at MSG, Ejiofor exploded for a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds, plus seven assists, three blocks and two steals, against UConn. He nailed 6-of-10 field goal attempts, including a 3-pointer, and canned 8-of-10 at the free-throw line
With a 12-1 Big East record, St. John’s is tied atop the conference standings with UConn.
