Ronnie Silva of Adelphi has been named Divisions II/III Men’s Player of the Week by the Met Basketball Writers Association.
The designation, for games played Jan. 3-9, is unique in that it encompasses players from 48 Met area schools across Divisions II and III.
A 5-9 senior guard from Nashua, NH, Silva --- who also was named the Northeast 10 Conference player of the week --- averaged an impressive 28.7 points in leading the Panthers (9-4, 4-2) to three wins last week. He shot 49.2% from the field, including 43.9% from 3-point range, in surpassing 20 points in each game.
Silva began the week on the road by producing 34 points in an 88-62 victory over Bloomfield. He followed by drilling seven 3-pointers en route to 31 points in an 83-71 win at home over Southern Connecticut State. His final contest of the week yielded a game-high equaling five 3-pointers and 21 points overall in a 73-66 triumph at American International.
