NEW YORK (Jan. 11, 2022) ---
Jenalyse Alarcon of Staten Island has been named Women's Divisions II/III Player of the Week by the Met Basketball Writers Association.
The designation, for games played Jan. 3-9, is unique in that it encompasses players from 48 Met area schools across Divisions II and III.
A 5-9 freshman forward from Troy, NY, Alarcon --- who also was named the East Coast Conference player of the week --- registered a high-scoring double-double in sparking the Dolphins (3-8, 1-3) in their only game last week to a scintillating 92-88 double overtime homecourt triumph over Bridgeport. The victory, in which Staten Island overcame a 15-point deficit entering the fourth quarter, snapped a six-game CSI losing streak.
Alarcon’s twinbill consisted of a career-high 32 points along with 17 rebounds, two assists and a steal. She connected on an efficient 63.2% of her shots (12-of-19) from the floor.
