Kaitlyn Davis of Columbia has been named Division I Women’s Player of the Week by the Met Basketball Writers Association.
The designation, for games played Jan. 17-23, is unique in that it encompasses players from 21 Met area schools across Division I.
A 6-0 junior guard-forward from Norwalk, CT, Davis --- who also was named Ivy League player of the week --- averaged an all-around 13.0 points, a huge 17.5 rebounds, plus 5.0 assists and 2.0 blocks as part of a 2-0 week for the Lions (13-3), who defeated Cornell at home 57-46 and Brown on the road 60-52. She registered a double-double in each game, her fifth and sixth of the season.
Davis began her week against Cornell by recording career highs of 18 rebounds and five assists to go with 10 points in the win.
She followed that with 16 points on 7-of-15 shooting from the floor along with 17 rebounds, three blocks and a career-high tying five assists at Brown.
The victory provided the Lions with their first 4-0 start in Ivy League annals along with their best overall record through 16 games (13-3) in program history.
