Joey Meyers of Drew and
Jackie Ventricelli of Ramapo have been named Women's Divisions II/III Co-Players of the Week by the Met Basketball Writers Association.
The designation, for games played Dec. 5-11, is unique in that it encompasses players from 45 Met area schools across Divisions II and III.
A 5-6 sophomore guard from Sayreville, NJ, Ventricelli --- who also was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference player of the week --- averaged 26.5 points, 9.5 rebounds and 4.0 steals as the Roadrunners (8-1) split of pair of road games last week, defeating NJCU 78-70 on Wednesday and losing their first game of the season on Saturday 81-66 at Rowan.
For the week, Ventricelli shot 46.7% (14-of-30) from the field and nailed 86.4% (19-of-22) of her efforts at the free throw line.
Ventricelli’s double-double at NJCU produced a career-high of 34 points on 10-of-15 shooting from the floor along with 11-of-12 free throw conversions. She also had 10 rebounds and a team-high six steals.
At Rowan, Ventricelli scored a team high 19 points, including three 3-pointers, while she pulled down nine rebounds, and added four assists and two steals.
A 5-10 senior guard from Brookside, NJ, Meyers averaged 16.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 2.0 steals in a 3-0 week for the Rangers (10-1).
She opened the week with 21 points, nine rebounds and four assists in a 74-53 homecourt win over Brooklyn.
Meyers followed with 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting and three steals while playing just 11 minutes in a 96-36 victory at Medgar Evers.
She closed the week with 14 points, five rebounds and seven assists, playing just over 22 minutes, in a 74-39 win at home over Raritan Valley.
