Alexa Charles of Hunter College has been named Divs. II/III Women’s Player of the Week by the Met Basketball Writers Association.
Charles is the NCAA's leading scorer for any level or gender this season, averaging 31.3 points per game.
The designation, for games played Feb. 9-15, is unique in that it encompasses players from 49 Met area schools across Divisions II and III.
This marks the fourth career MBWA weekly accolade for Charles, her first this season. The all-time CUNY Athletic Conference scorer, with over 2,500 points, won the award twice last season and once during her sophomore campaign in 2023-24.
A 5-8 senior guard from Tarrytown, NY, Charles averaged 35.0 points, 9.0 rebounds and 4.5 steals in leading the homecourt Hawks (18-6, 11-2) to a 79-55 victory over Lehman on Wednesday and a 90-60 romp past Medgar Evers on Friday.
She started the week with a 36-point, 10-rebound double-double, while grabbing four steals and registering two blocks against Lehman.
Next, she checked in with 34 points, eight rebounds and five steals against Medgar Evers.
In addition to her 31.3 points per game, Charles tops Division III with 658 total points and 261 field goals made (out of 517 shots, a 50.5% accuracy for the season).
