NEW YORK (Jan. 9, 2024) ---
Kadary Richmond of Seton Hall University has been named Division I Men’s Player of the Week by the Met Basketball Writers Association.
The designation, for games played Jan 1-7, is unique in that it encompasses players from 21 Met area Division I schools.
This is the first time that Richmond has been honored by the MBWA.
A 6-6 senior guard from Brooklyn, NY, Richmond --- the second consecutive MBWA Player of the Week from Seton Hall and the Big East Conference player of the week --- averaged 18.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists as the Pirates (10-5) went 2-0 in defeating a pair of Top 25-ranked teams last week.
In a 61-57 victory at No. 23 Providence on Wednesday, Richmond helped the Pirates jump out to a five-point halftime lead by scoring 11 of his 16 points in the first half. He also produced eight rebounds and all six of his team’s assists in the game;
In addition to scoring 14 of his 21 points in the second half of a 78-75 triumph at home on Saturday against No. 7-ranked Marquette, Richmond dished out a team-best five assists. He shot 50% (8-of-16) from the floor and nailed all five of his tosses at the free throw line.
