Unique Drake of St. John's University has been named Division I Women’s Player of the Week by the Met Basketball Writers Association.
The designation, for games played Jan. 1-7, is unique in that it encompasses players from 21 Met area Division I schools.
A 5-7 senior guard from Columbia, SC, Drake --- who also was named Big East Conference player of the week --- scored a game-high 24 points in each of the Red Storm (9-7) league victories last week.
She shot 56.2% (20-of-38) from the floor as St. John’s edged No. 19-ranked Marquette 57-56 at home on Wednesday and defeated Providence 55-48 Saturday on the road.
Drake connected on 10-of-18 field goals, including 3-of-4 from beyond the arc, against Marquette. She scored the final nine points for the Red Storm, including the eventual game-winner with 1:21 to play.
She hit 10-of-20 shots from the floor and added a game-high four steals in the win at Providence.
