Mia Castillo of Baruch College has been named Divisions II/III Women's Player of the Week by the Met Basketball Writers Association.
The designation, for games played Jan. 1-7, is unique in that it encompasses players from 48 Met area schools across Divisions II and III.
A 5-7 junior guard from Pleasant Valley, NY, Castillo --- who also was named the CUNY Athletic Conference player of the week and claimed her second MBWA accolade this season --- averaged a double-double of 26.0 points and 10.0 rebounds while adding 7.0 assists and 5.5 steals as the Bearcats (8-6) defeated Brooklyn 61-56 at home on Wednesday and blasted CCNY 69-37 Friday on the road.
She led all scorers with 31 points to help Baruch snap a 14-game losing streak to Brooklyn. She connected on her fourth 3-pointer of the game with 35 seconds left for a 59-56 lead that stood as the game-winning shot.
Castillo notched her fourth career triple-double and second this season with 21 points, 16 rebounds and 10 assists at CCNY. She missed a rare quadruple-double by one with nine steals.
