Jonathan Grimsley of Medgar Evers College has been named Divisions II/III Men’s Player of the Week by the Met Basketball Writers Association.
The designation, for games played Jan. 6-12, is unique in that it encompasses players from 49 Met area schools across Divisions II and III.
This is the first MBWA weekly honor for Grimsley.
A 6-4 senior guard-forward from Queens, NY, Grimsley --- who also was named the CUNY Athletic Conference player of the week --- averaged 32.0 points, 13.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists in a 1-1 week for the Cougars (3-11). He shot 54.2% (26-48) from the floor, including 4-of-8 from 3-point range.
Grimsley began his week on the road Wednesday in an 88-73 loss at Hunter where he posted 26 points and nine rebounds.
He came back on Friday to register 38 points and 17 rebounds, including a game-winning buzzer beater in a 92-91 homecourt victory over York. Grimsley nailed 16-of-29 field goal shots in the game while also dishing out five assists.
