NEW YORK (Jan. 21, 2025) ---
Jack Spellman of Stevens Institute of Technology has been named Divisions II/III Men’s Player of the Week by the Met Basketball Writers Association.
The designation, for games played Jan. 13-19, is unique in that it encompasses players from 49 Met area schools across Divisions II and III.
This is the second MBWA weekly honor for Spellman, who previously received a similar nod as a junior on Dec. 6, 2022.
A 6-9 senior forward from Westfield, NJ, Spellman averaged 18.5 points, 18.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists as the Ducks (12-3) went 2-0 last week to remain perfect in MAC Freedom action, defeating Arcadia 76-55 on the road Wednesday and drubbing King’s 97-64 back at home on Saturday.
Spellman put up a season-high 23 points and grabbed 21 rebounds as he shot 9-of-13 from the floor in the win over Arcadia. It was the second time in three games that he registered 21 or more rebounds.
Against King’s, Spellman nailed 6-of-7 shots from the field as he scored 14 points and grabbed 16 rebounds playing just over half (21 minutes) the game.
Spellman leads the MAC Freedom Conference in rebounding with a 13.6 average off the glass, an rpg which ranks him No. 3 nationally in Division III.
