Mia Castillo of Baruch College has been named Divisions II/III Women’s Player of the Week by the Met Basketball Writers Association.
The designation, for games played Jan. 13-19, is unique in that it encompasses players from 49 Met area schools across Divisions II and III.
This is the fifth MBWA weekly honor for Castillo, having captured the accolade four times last season.
A 5-8 senior guard from Pleasant Valley, NY, Castillo helped lead the Bearcats (6-9) to two CUNY Athletic Conference wins last week, averaging 34.0 points, 8.0 assists, 5.5 steals and 4.5 rebounds in a 68-57 defeat of John Jay on the road Wednesday and an 85-56 homecourt victory over Medgar Evers on Friday.
Castillo started with a 27-point, eight-assist, seven-steal showcase in Baruch’s first win at John Jay since 2018.
She followed 48 hours later against Medgar Evers with 41 points, eight assists, six rebounds and four steals.
For the season, Castillo leads the CUNY conference and all of NCAA Division III nationally with 28.3 points per game, 424 total points and 155 made field goals. She also is third in CUNY with 33 made 3-pointers.
