Nkiru Awaka of Queens College has been named Divs. II/III Women’s Player of the Week by the Met Basketball Writers Association.
The designation, for games played Dec. 8-14, is unique in that it encompasses players from 49 Met area schools across Divisions II and III.
This is Awaka's second career MBWA player of the week selection, as she previously earned this award for the week of Feb. 3-9 during the 2024-25 season.
A 6-0 junior forward from Hyde Park, NY, Awaka --- who was named the East Coast Conference co-player of the week --- averaged a double-double of 19.0 points on 69.6% shooting (16-of-23) from the field and 17.5 rebounds in a pair of homecourt triumphs for the Knights (4-7).
She added 2.5 assists per game, 2.0 blocks and 2.0 steals as Queens toppled Southern New Hampshire 70-57 on Wednesday and clipped Roberts Wesleyan 59-54 on Sunday.
Awaka began her week by posting 20 points on 9-of-12 shooting and 19 rebounds along with three blocks and three assists against SNHU.
She closed the week with 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting and 16 rebounds plus three steals and two assists against conferenced foe Roberts Wesleyan.
Awaka is ranked No. 20 nationally in Division II with 10.9 rebounds per game.
