Ciara Collins of Pace University has been named Divs. II/III Women’s Player of the Week by the Met Basketball Writers Association.
The designation, for games played Jan. 12-18, is unique in that it encompasses players from 49 Met area schools across Divisions II and III.
This is Collins' first career MBWA weekly honor.
A 5-10 senior forward from Bristol, CT, Collins --- who also was named the Northeast 10 Conference player of the week --- averaged 25.5 points, 9.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists in a 1-1 NE10 week for the Setters (6-10, 2-5).
She opened the week with a double-double of 28 points and 11 rebounds, plus three steals, as Pace claimed a 62-51 victory Tuesday at Adelphi. Collins in the game became the 31st player in program history to surpass 1,000 career points.
At home on Saturday in a 59-44 loss to Saint Michael’s, Collins produced 23 points, eight rebounds and five assists.
Collins leads Pace and is third in the NE10 in scoring with 16.4 points per game. She co-leads the Setters in both rebounding (6.6 rpg) and total steals (24).
