NEW YORK (Dec. 9, 2025) ---
Cruz Davis of Hofstra University has been named Division I Men’s Player of the Week by the Met Basketball Writers Association.
The designation, for games played Dec. 1-7, is unique in that it encompasses players from 21 Met area Division I schools.
This marks Davis' first career MBWA player of the week honor.
A 6-3 junior guard from Plano, TX, Davis --- who also was named the Coastal Athletic Association player of the week --- averaged 30.0 points and 4.5 assists as the Pride (6-4) narrowly lost at Columbia 72-70 on Wednesday and then traveled Sunday to defeat Pittsburgh 80-73.
Davis started his week with 24 points, two assists and two steals at Columbia, propelling a second-half rally by scoring 16 points after intermission.
At Pitt, he poured in a career-high 36 points along with seven assists, shooting 14-of-25 from the field, including 5-of-11 from 3-point range. Davis’ 36 points are the most by a player in the CAA this season as Hofstra posted its first win over an Atlantic Coast Conference team since 2015.
Players receiving MBWA Division I Honorable Mention for the week: Rhyjon Blackwell, Marist; Malachi Davis, LIU; Zuby Ejiofor, St. John’s; AJ Staton-McCray, Seton Hall; Lamin Sabally, Iona.
